Ah I think there was an existing problem which was hidden, as the test failures weren't being handled properly (as you noticed) |

https://www.di-mgt.com.au/sha_testvectors.html provides a battery of tests for the SHA functions, including some very long inputs (here, represented as string generators).
This also includes a patch that ensures that
make testsactually fails with non-0 error code if a test fails.
